Transpiration — Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science

Transpiration as the loss of water vapour from leaves, how temperature and wind speed affect its rate, and measuring it with a potometer.

Spec B8.3Transport in plants, subtopic 3 of 3

Revision notes

2 short notes, in the order of the specification. Each one in short:

  1. Transpiration is the loss of water vapour from leaves: water evaporates from mesophyll cells and the vapour diffuses out through the stomata.

  2. Transpiration is faster at higher temperature and higher wind speed and slower in humid air; a potometer measures water uptake by a cut shoot.
