Cambridge IGCSE Biology, topic 21

Biotechnology and genetic modification

Biotechnology uses living organisms, such as bacteria and yeast, or substances from them, such as enzymes, to make useful products. This topic covers how yeast, enzymes and fermenters are used in industry, and how genetic modification changes the genes of an organism so that it makes a new product or gains a new feature. You also meet the advantages and disadvantages of genetically modified crops.
